After read What is a Personal Learning Network (PLN), I have a better understanding of learning on the web. Learning knowledge and understanding information through the web is more like passive input. Like Tiktok, each video is very short up to 5 minutes. Receiving information quickly in a short period of time is the desire of people in today’s rapid age for a fast-paced life. However, we have to wonder whether people can remember this kind of fast and short content. In Week 1: Wow and Wonder in JINGJINGJIANG’s blog, she mentioned that after we are interested in something, the platform will push a lot of related videos on the home page based on metadata. While providing convenience, we should think about whether the pushing of metadata also interferes with our understanding or receiving of other information. It exposes the privacy to a certain extent according to the metadata of “private ordering”.

Before the Internet was popular, we usually went to the library to find information. I still remember the smell of ink from the books as I turned the pages, and the quiet atmosphere of the library. Although I would occasionally go to the library to review, the library was filled with the sound of keyboard tapping. The sound of keyboards is not loud, but it is not the quiet atmosphere it once was. As mentioned in Week 2: Wow and Wonder in Reggie’s blog, the internet has made our lives easier. We can get the knowledge that we want more quickly. When looking for information, as long as there is the Internet, it seems like there is a place to learn.

Although I enjoy learning through physical books most of all, I have to admit that the convenience of e-books is far greater than physical books. From physical books to e-books, I’m starting to get used to reading articles through my tablet or phone. There are many websites that provide instructional videos that make it easier for me to learn more. The website I use most is called bilibili, where a lot of vlog share their experiences and teachers give lectures on the subject. This site contains not only knowledge videos but also entertainment videos, so I can relax when I am tired of studying. However, there is not every video is suitable, so we need to identify what kind of videos are suitable for watching. As I mentioned in my previous blog for children, parents need to control the classification of videos. In the future, I’m curious to see if online learning will replace real-life teaching. In 2020, we had a very special year. We had to stay home to study and work. Although it was uncomfortable at the beginning, people didn’t also adapt quickly in the early days of Internet adoption.
